Never Ever Beginner Mahjong Lesson

Never ever played Mahjong? This two-part beginner series is for you! Join us at Bird Bam Mahjong Studio, 821 Islington Street in Portsmouth NH. We’ll introduce the basics of American Mahjong through step-by-step instruction and hands-on practice in a small group limited to eight participants. It lays out as follows: Day 1: "Intro to Mahjong" - We cover tile recognition, how to read the NMJL card and interpret hands on it, how to create a Mahjong hand that matches a line on the NMJL, and the do's and don'ts of using Jokers. We conclude the day with a game of "messy play" Mahjong - to introduce how game flow works. Day 2: "Get you playing" - We move on from "messy" play to "real" play by introducing the concept of tile "walls", breaking the wall, and the Charleston, and then proceed to play real mahjong in a slow, guided and methodical way.
